Are you someone who enjoys to grow? Do you constantly seek to enhance yourself and become much better? If you do, then we've got something in common. I am very passionate about personal growth. It was just 4 years ago when I discovered my passion for developing and helping others grow. At that moment, I was 22 and in my final year of university. As I thought about the significance of life, I realized there was nothing more meaningful than to pursue a lifetime of development and improvement. It's through improving ourselves which we get the absolute most out of life.

How to Better Yourself One Day at a Time

After 1.5 years of actively pursuing growth and helping others to develop through my private development blog, I realize there is never an end to the journey of self improvement. The more I grow, the more I recognize there is so much out there I don't understand, so much that I have to learn. For sure, there's always something about ourselves we could improve on. The human potential is infinite, so it's not possible to reach a point of no expansion. Whenever we think we're good, we can be even better.

As a fervent advocate of expansion, I'm continuously searching for ways to self-improve. I have compiled 42 of my best tips which could be beneficial in your own personal growth journey. Some of them are simple steps that you are able to participate in instantly. Some are bigger steps that takes conscious effort to act on.

Read a book every day

Books are focused sources of knowledge. The more books you read, the more wisdom you expose yourself to. What are a few books you'll be able to start reading in order to enrich yourself? Some books I've read and found useful are Think and Grow Rich, Who Moved My Cheese, 7 Habits, The Science of Getting Rich and Living the 80/20 Way. I've heard favorable reviews for The Tipping Point, Outliers and The Difference Maker, so I'll be checking them out soon.

  • Learn a new language. As a Singaporean Chinese, my most important languages are English, Mandarin and Hokkien (a Chinese dialect). Out of curiosity, I took up language courses in the previous few years like Japanese and Bahasa Indonesian. I realized learning a language is a completely new skill altogether and the practice of acquainting with a brand new language and culture is a totally a mind-opening experience.
  • Pick up a new hobby. Beyond just your normal favorite hobbies, is there something new you can pick up? Any new sport you are able to learn? Examples are fencing, golf, rock climbing, soccer, canoeing, or ice skating. Your new hobby can also be a recreational pastime. For instance, pottery, Italian cooking, dance, wine appreciation, internet design, etc.. Learning something new requires you to stretch yourself in various aspects, whether physically, mentally or emotionally.
  • Take up a new class. Is there some new class you can join? Courses are a terrific way to obtain new knowledge and abilities. It doesn't have to be a long-term path -- seminars or workshops serve their purpose also. I have been to a couple of workshops and they have helped me gain new insights that I hadn't considered before.
  • Create an inspirational area. Your surroundings sets the mood and tone for you. If you are living in a motivational environment, you are likely to be motivated every day. In years past I didn't like my room whatsoever because I thought it was cluttered and dull. A few years back, I decided that this was the conclusion of it -- I began on a "Mega Room Revamp" job and overhauled my area. The final result? An area I totally love being in and motivates me to be in my peak daily.

  • Overcome your fears. All of us have fears. Fear of doubt, fear of public speaking, fear of danger... All our anxieties Keep us in the identical position and prevent us from climbing. Recognize that your fears reflect areas where you are able to grow. I always think of anxieties as the compass for growth. If I have a fear about something, it signifies something I've yet to tackle, and addressing it helps me to develop.

  • Level up your abilities. If you've played video games before notably RPGs, you'll know the concept of leveling up -- gaining experience so that you may be better and stronger. As a blogger, I'm always leveling up my writing abilities. As a speaker, I'm constantly leveling up my public participation abilities. What skills can you level up?

  • Wake up early. Waking up early (state, 5-6am) has been recognized by several (Anthony Robbins, Robin Sharma, among other self-help professionals) to boost your productivity and your quality of life. I feel it is because once you wake up early, your mindset is already set to continue the momentum and proactively live out the day. Seth recently published a waking up early show that you ought to check out to help cultivate this habit.

  • Have a weekly workout routine. A better you starts with being in better physical shape. I personally make it a point to jog at least 3 times a week, a minimum of 30 minutes each time. You might want to mix this up with jogging, gym swimming and lessons for variant.
